A Sgt in the Army Medical Corps with the Canadian Expeditionary Force in WW 1, he attended  the 1916 Bayonet Fighting and Physical Training Course in Victoria BC at No 11 Military District School of BF &PT. In 1918 he became a F/O in the RCAF and on returning to Canada became a successful fruit grower and poultryman. He was the Clerk of the District of Glenmore BC for 30 years
