MERCREDI, Matthew Cecil 1934-2010.


Mike was born 17 Sep 1934 and was raised in Fort Fitzgerald, Yellowknife and in Fort Smith. He changed his name from Matthew to Mike because Matthew was difficult to say in his 1st Language - French with a Chipewyan accent. Mike joined the Army in 1950 and took his Group 3 PTI Course in 1956/1957 at Camp Borden. He served in Chilliwack (2), Germany; Borden, Senneterre and Winnipeg from where he retired after 23 Years. On retirement he worked on the rigs in Fort Mc Murray to put himself through university at age 40 and worked for the Deputy Minister of Northern Affairs in La-Ronge, SK negotiated with mining companies on behalf of the Native Bands in the north.

Mike & I were PTI with the RCE as Ac/I's at first under Butch Goody in the 50ies; we stayed in touch over the years until his passing; I'm also good friends with his son Mike who is a Great Guy; may he rest in peace.!
