Sorry to hear about the passing of Sam Cook. I serve with him 1965 HMCS Shearwater.

Does anybody know what his real name was and why he choose the name Sam??????

His real name was Hubert and he chose the name Sam whenever he fought (boxing) out in the Maritimes. He told me he always had trouble with his mom because when she was listening to the boxing matches she always expected to hear the name Hubert Cook and not Sam Cook but Sammy told her nobody would believe that a man name Hubert could fight. He wasn't a tall guy but he sure was a friendly type always ready with a smile and a big heart. "RIP" my friend and I'm sure am glad that our paths crossed. Later Richard "Rick" Parent
