Retired Major Calvin Vernon Hatt took his place on the all star hockey team in the stars on the afternoon of June 28th, 2023. The former RCAF DEPERA super athlete was born in Chester Basin NS on Feb 25, 1938. Cal excelled at any sport he attempted.

Cal adored his family. He leaves behind his loving wife Joyce (nee Doucet), Calabogie, ON. His daughter Joanne (Cam Creighton), Ottawa, ON and granddaughter Taylor Creighton, Halifax, NL. His stepchildren; Jason Cormier (Maddy), Melbourne, AU, Jamey Cormier (Kalen), Tampa Bay, FL, Michelle Balcer (Dave), Philadelphia, PA and his step grandkids (who adored him) Holden, Dylan, Saskia and Francesca.

Cal also leaves his sister Maxine Haines, his very special nephew Geoffry Haines as well many of his family members in Halifax, NB. He leaves behind his brother David in Coldwater, NS.

Cal will be missed by Joyce's family, sister, Diane Doucet (Denis Dutrisac), brothers Jim Doucet, Laurie Doucet (Irene) and Bob Doucet (Hennie).

He was predeceased by his son, Chris (d. 1985), mother and other sisters.

Cal fought courageously against his battle with Alzheimer's for many long years. He left a smile on the face of all his opponents when it came to golfing or hockey. He was one of a kind and will be missed by so many.

His family would like to express their appreciation to The Perley Veterans Center for excellent years of compassion and care. To those amazing caregivers, we can never say thank you enough! While I only met Cal few times in me career, I’ve always been impressed by his charismatic personality. Our deepest sympathies to his families and closed friends. RIP Cal. We’ll never forget you.

Joyce and Family;

I am so sorry for your loss. Cal was a great friend, golf partner, canal runner, and Friday nights tip of a few drinks pal. I nicknamed him “Thumper” as he was always practising his golf swing while I was on the tee. Although I haven’t seen Cal for years, he has left me with great memories.

Most sincerely ❤️
