In-Memoriam DAVID MALCOLM REGAN

DAVID MALCOLM REGAN

July 17, 1960 - October 8, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dave Regan, age 63, who passed away peacefully with his loving wife at his bedside, in the early morning of October 8, 2023, at the St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Ward.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife Mary-Louise of 26 years; son Brandon Adamson and daughter Brianna Adamson and grandchildren; as well as his brother Will (Angi), and many nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends.

Dave was predeceased by his father William, his mother Isabella, and brothers Ron and Alan.

Dave was born in Montréal, QC. He grew up in the Laval area where he attended Rosemere Catholic Elementary School and Western Laval High School until his graduation in 1978. During his youth, Dave’s passion for baseball, hockey, and many other sports, laid the groundwork for his future career in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Dave loyally served in the CAF for 18 years; first as a Radio Operator from 1979 - 1985, and then as a Physical Education & Recreation Instructor until his early retirement in 1997. Dave liked to fondly say that he spent the better half of his career on a “sports scholarship”.

Throughout his military career and his service in the CFMWS and other areas of employment, Dave excelled in all that he did. He was an exemplary employee through his steadfast commitment and great work ethic. He had a shining personality that won him the admiration and respect of his colleagues, friends and family who saw first-hand hi enthusiasm, craft, wit and charm. Most of all, Dave remained very humble throughout the various achievements in his career such as the CF Sports Award in 2004 for his contributions and dedication to the sport of hockey as a referee.

Through sports, Dave made many life-long friends. He was admired for his natural ability and passion for the game of golf. Whether at the Kingston Garrison Golf & Curling Club or the Winnipeg Southwood Golf & Country Club, he enjoyed rounds of golf with “the guys” who helped each other out by providing some helpful tips and engaged in some playful banter followed by a few beers.

Cycling became a passion in Dave’s later life. He joined his friend, neighbour, and colleague Steve Brick on early morning and weekend rides. Oh, the chats and wisecracks that when on between those two! In no time at all, their stories usually involved flat tires, being chased by a dog, or some crashes that bear some war wounds to this very day.

Everyone who knew Dave knew that he loved golf, cycling, hockey, baseball, burgers & fries, pizza, his dogs, Mary-Louise, and the latest gadgets. Not necessarily in that order, lol.

Dave and Mary-Louise enjoyed sunny and warm destinations like Florida, the Bahamas, and Aruba, to name a few. Alongside Mary-Louise, he enjoyed walks with their dogs through the neighbourhood, trails, parks, and places to swim throughout Kingston, ON, Victoria, BC, and Winnipeg, MB.

After valiantly battling brain cancer, Dave is finally at peace. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

We would like to thank all those from WHRA Wound Care and Palliative Care for their compassionate care.

His funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160-675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of your choice.
