James (Skip) Boyer

Joined the Army in 1963 at 17, Artillery, after basic in Shilo was posted to Gagetown. After my first year with the Artillery knew there had to be something better. Started in the gym in 1964 where I worked with both Mel McGraw and Ron Partridge, the best of the best. Gagetown is where I met my beautiful wife Janet and we were married in 1966. Was posted to Germany in 1967 with the Artillery and Petawawa in 1970. In 1971 finally became a PERI, stayed at Borden a few years, then to Chatham were I worked with another one of the very best, Barney Barnard. Was promoted to Sgt in 1976 and received the Serviceman of the Year Award had a few other posting Beaverlodge back to Borden, Summerside then Halifax (worst of the worst) where I took my release in 1989 after 27 yrs of service. Went to work for the Ontario Ministry of Health and finally completely retired in 2005 and live still in Penetanguishene. Celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary in 2016 with a trip to Cuba with the whole family and Janets two sister, niece and God daughter ended up being 15 of us, best trip ever. Still enjoying retirement and travelling to wherever our hearts take us, still love playing badminton and skying, unfortunately my body now controls how much I can do and not my mind. God bless you all.

Skip Boyer (forever a PERI)
