About
Alan (Al) Blondel
(A bigography by his grand-daughter Rebecca Hudson)
Alan Blondel was born on June 30, 1933. He was an evacuee during the 2nd world war. He lived in Guernsey and was evacuated to England at the age of six.
It was tough being an evacuee. Alan had to leave his Father and his home in Guernesey to live with an elderly couple in England. He was lucky because the couple that he stayed with were pretty nice and kind. His mother and his older sister also were evacuated with him. He still remembers his evacuee number to this day. His house in Guernsey was bombed and when they returned they had to rent a cottage. Alan was twelve when the war ended.
When Alan was older and grown up he became a printer apprentice for 5 years. Back then printing was a lot harder. Alan said "I had to pick out little letters and put them into a frame for the press. If I made a mistake, then I had to do it all over again."
He met his wife in 1953. Just weeks before emigrating to Canada. There he joined the Canadian Air Force and had to travel all over Europe and Canada with his wife Edna and his three children. After 34 1/2 years in the military he retired in Gananoque where he was an artist. Alan enjoyed golfing in the summer and curling in the winter. He was always very busy teaching Sunday school. Being a drug and alcohol counselor and also a sports and recreation organizer. Now he lives with Edna in Kingston and takes time with his grandchildren.
